(필독) 오픽 시험 등급, 현실적인 레벨 별 영어 실력

공식 사이트의 두리뭉실한 오픽 레벨 말고, 현실적으로 정확히 어떤 수준으로 영어를 해야 높은 오픽 점수를 받을 수 있는지 얘기해보겠습니다. 이 글을 끝까지 자세히 읽어보고, 앞으로 올라올 후기도 참조하면 원하는 점수 다 받을 수 있습니다. 믿고 그냥 해보세요.  

시작하기 전, 궁금점 해결 위한 Q & A 

• 어휘나 남들이 쓰지 않는 이디엄 등이 중요하다고 하는데 맞나요? -> IH까지는 전혀 필요 없습니다. AL은 필요합니다.
• 발음이 아주 중요하다고 하는데 맞나요? -> IH레벨까지는 발음 신경 안 쓰셔도 됩니다. 단 특정 발음 f, v, l 등이 안될 때는 그냥 그 발음 없는 다른 단어로 대체하는 게 낫습니다. 따로 발음 연습하지 마세요. 
• 유창성이 중요하다고 하던데, 빠른 속도가 좋나요? -> 아니요, 상관없습니다. 속도가 너무 빨라서 (특히 템플릿 외우신 분들) 제가 더 천천히 아주 느리게 말하라고 하는 분도 계십니다. 
• 중간에 자주 멈추거나 더듬는 경우 안 좋다고 하던데 맞나요? -> 좋을 건 없지만, 다음 말할 내용을 생각하느라 잠시 뜸 들이는 것은 전혀 상관없습니다. 이런 경우, 말할 콘텐츠만 생각나면 바로 말을 자신감 있게 이어나가시기 때문입니다. 
• filler 필러 (중간에 멈추거나 뜸 들일 때, 일부러 별 의미 없이 쓰는 말들)를 자주 많이 쓰면 좋다는데 맞나요? -> 아니오. 단순히 필러를 많이 쓴다고 해서 점수가 잘 나오지 않습니다. 내용이 알맹이가 없는데 굳이 필러로 1분 중 30초를 채운다고 해서 점수가 나오는 건 아닙니다. 

 

실질적인 오픽 등급 별 영어실력

 1. IM1 레벨

: 이분들은 (주어+동사+목적어) 등으로 이루어진 문장 구성이 가능합니다. 아주 간단한 질문도 가능합니다. 하지만, 중간에 말을 더 이상 연결하지 못하고 어, 어 하다가 That's all. 하며 끝나는 경우가 많습니다. 또, 과거 시제를 썼다 안 썼다 합니다. '나는 인천에 갔다.'라는 말을 하고 싶은데, 정작 말로는 '나는 인천에 간다. I go to 인천'으로 말합니다. 대답의 내용도 물어본 질문과는 살짝 다른 내용인 경우가 많습니다. IM1 레벨이신 분들의 영어 실력은 대략 아래와 같습니다. (비교를 위해 다 동일하게 살고 있는 집 묘사로 예시를 들겠습니다)

• I live in apartment. and I live with my family. There is TV and sofa in my house. and I like TV very much. so I watch TV very much. and, I like my house. because it's very good and big.

2. IM2 레벨

: IM2 레벨은 IM1레벨 이신 분들보다 조금 더 긴 문장을 구사합니다. 질문을 할 때도 사이에 적당한 이유나 내용을 덧붙일 수 있습니다. 과거 시제를 또한 항상 다 맞춰서 말할 수 있습니다. 대답도 물어본 질문에 적합한 내용으로 off-topic 되지 않고 말합니다. 하지만 전치사를 틀릴 때가 많고, 사용하는 어휘가 단조롭습니다. 단수 복수 수일 치도 잘 되지 않습니다. IM2 레벨이신 분들의 말하기 실력은 대략 아래와 같습니다. 

• I live in apartment with my family. There are many things in my house. In the living room, there are TV and sofa. I like the TV because I like watching TV. and in my kitchen, there is a big table. I and my family eat delicious food in the table. and my room has a big window. so I can see many builiding there. I like my house. 

3. IM3 레벨

: IM3 레벨은 IM2 레벨 이신 분들보다 문장과 문장 사이의 연결이 자연스럽습니다. 질문도 다양한 패턴을 사용해서 할 수 있습니다. 현재시제 과거 시제도 자유롭게 사용하고, 대답의 내용도 단순한 사실관계뿐 만 아니라 본인의 감정이나 의견까지 넣어서 더 풍부합니다. 어휘도 더 정확하고 다양하게 사용합니다. 하지만 대답이 하나의 잘 짜인 문단이라는 느낌이 들지 않고, 전체적인 내용이 단편적입니다. 제일 중요한 부분은, 관계대명사를 이용하여 복문을 만들 줄 모른다는 점입니다. IM3 레벨이신 분들의 말하기 실력은 대략 아래와 같습니다. 

• I live in an apartment with my family. There are many items in my house. In the living room, there are TV and sofa and air-conditioner and so on. Especially, I like the TV best because I usually watch TV after work with my family. These days, I usually watch Netflix on TV. I think, it's very useful to watch many kinds of program. and then, next, in the kitchen, there is nothing special. because, I don't usually go to kitchen to cook something. well, but I like my room, because it's very comfortable to me. so This is my house. 

4. IH 레벨

: IH 레벨은 현재시제 과거 시제뿐만 아니라, 완료 시제 등도 자유롭게 사용하고, 대답의 내용도 잘 짜인 하나의 문단이라는 느낌이 듭니다. 어휘도 틀리지 않고, 생각나지 않는 단어가 있더라도 다르게 영어로 표현할 줄 압니다. 특히, 관계대명사를 사용해서 복문을 만들 줄 압니다. IH 레벨이신 분들의 회화 실력은 아래와 같습니다. 

• I have been living in my apartment with my family for about 10 years. There are many appliances in my house. For example, in the living room, there are a brand-new Samsung smart TV that I usually watch Netflix, and a sofa that my mom bought last year. This living room is the place that my all family usually stay. And next, in my room, there are so many books to study for my major, and also there is a bed that I have used for about 10 years, because I bought this bed when I moved into this house. However, I don't like the bathroom in my house, because it's too dirty and small for my family. Especially, in winter season, it's really terrible to take a shower in the morning there. but overall, I like my house. so, This is my house that I live in. 

5. AL 레벨

: 대망의 AL레벨입니다. 이분들은 성수 일치 등 사소한 오류가 거의 없습니다. 어휘를 사용할 때도 어색한 표현이 전혀 없으며, 자신감과 유창성이 있기 때문에 속도도 상대적으로 굉장히 빠릅니다. 내가 잘 모르는 경험치 밖의 질문을 하더라도 당황하지 않고, 유사한 다른 얘기로 이어나갈 수 있습니다. AL 레벨이신 분들의 영어회화 실력은 아래와 같습니다. 

• okay, let me illustrate where I live. I have been living in an apartment with my family for about 10 years. This place is just a typical Korean style apartment which you can see everywhere. If you get into my house, you can see  many appliances. For example, in the living room, there are a brand-new Samsung smart TV that I usually watch Netflix, sometimes I can connect my phone with the TV and play games with a bigger monitor. This is really awesome when I spend some spare time for games. but basically, this living room is the place where all my family members share our daily life and coffe chat. This is why I like this area the most.  And another thing is my room, there are tons of books to study for my major, and also there is a bed that I have used for about 10 years, because I bought this bed when I moved into this house. I wanna change this one to new one, cuz it's too shabby to use. But for my whole family, I would like to upgrade the bathroom. because it's too dirty and small. in winter season, it's freezing cold to take a shower in the morning there. althought there are some drawbacks, I really like my house. Because this has been a sweet home for my family all the time.
